Firewatch Group raise £1265 for Cornwall Hospice Care
Fifty-three intrepid golfers from businesses in Devon and Cornwall faced nigh on gale force winds and driving rain, all in the cause of charity!
All the golfers braved the elements at the Whitsands Bay Hotel and Gold Club to compete in a full stableford competition. The usual testers were thrown in by Martin Smith, such as ‘Shot Swap’ and ‘One Club and a Putter’.
Included in the ‘Special’ holes was a challenge to beat the club professional Andy Welch on the 12th Hole – five golfers succeeded in doing so and were entered into a draw to win a two night stay at the magnificent St Ives Bay Hotel (kindly donated by General Manager Jason Parry). The lucky winner was Phil Whiteway!
There were three team prizes and winning by 1 point was the Harbour Amusements team with 113 points, which won them four donated shirts by Stratstone Jaguar Plymouth and a four ball donated by Falmouth Golf Club. The runners up were the team from the Plymouth Royal Tank Regiment Association, with 112 points, and System6 Kitchens taking third place with 109 points.
Three pairs achieved 61 points, on count back winners were Bob Voight and Dave Slee from Interserve Construction, with Roy Hockings and Rick Clark from the Plymouth RTRA and third the Firewatch (a) team pairing of Paul Bryant and Martin Smith.
Rose Wiltshire from Cornwall Hospice Care braved the bad weather to dispense Cornish Pasties (donated by Ginsters) on the 12th from the refreshment tent. The tent made appearances at the 11th Hole and approaching the 10th at various times of the day, thanks to the weather!
After the meal, Firewatch Group CEO and event organiser Martin Smith thanked all those attending for their good humour and generosity and was able to present Rose with a cheque for £1,265 for the Cornwall Hospice Care!
