Charlies Trophy Golf Day raises £10,244!!!!
The inaugural charity golf day named after Charlie Lawlor the grandson of Firewatch CEO Martin Smith’s was played at Dainton Park Golf Club on Friday 12th July.
The event replaced the Firewatch Group Golf Day and will now be organised and supported by Firewatch and Martin every year to raise awareness of Rubinstein – Taybi Syndrome (RTS).The Action for Children Torbay centre was also a recipient of the days fundraising.
124 players supported the event in a good humoured, but long and hot day at the immaculate Dainton Park .The day included both a pairs and team stableford competition with also 20+ individual prizes up for grabs, main sponsor System6 Kitchens of Exeter put up a £12,000 kitchen for a hole-in-one, the day also had target chipping & putting competition and more non-conventional golf football on the 12th tee, rounded of by Marshmallow driving on the driving range organised by Paignton based Mantracom.
The main prizes were won by the Dainton Dodgers team comprising of Terry Headford, Alan Richardson, Paul Bruley & Stuart Mackerrell, with Paul and Stuart winning the pairs, home course knowledge certainly helped.
Martin thanked everybody for supporting the day, the golfers for participating and the many local businesses who helped out by sponsoring holes and donating prizes. The RTS support group chairman John Peat , travelled down from Leeds to participate, and thanked those who attended and explained that the money raised would be of immense help to such a small charity.
