Fire Alarm safety on YouTube
A YouTube video has been produced promoting the use of mains powered smoke alarms featuring a residential landlord, Mark Healey, also a chairman of a fire authority.

“As a landlord myself, I know how important it is to install working smoke alarms in the properties I am responsible for,” said Mr Healey. “I am therefore pleased to have been asked to help support the government’s Fire Kills campaign and urge all landlords to consider installing either 10-year battery alarms, or hard-wired detectors in their properties.”

CHICKS CHARITY GOLF DAY

For the second year Firewatch SW Ltd were the main sponsors at the Chicks Charity Golf Day
This was on the 24th June 2011 at the Trethorne Golf Club near Launceston. Mick Ryan the organiser was delighted to report they raised £5,100 on the day and thanked Martin Smith and Firewatch for their continued support.

CHICKS provides free six-day respite breaks for disadvantaged children from across the UK, who would not otherwise have a break in that year.

In 2010, just over 1,100 children enjoyed a break with CHICKS, with no government funding and relying solely on donations this is a big challenge!

CHICKS have two retreats, one based in Brentor, near Tavistock, Devon. The other is based in Tywardreath, near Par in Cornwall. Both retreats take a maximum of 16 children at one time; 8 boys and 8 girls, within an 8-11 or 12-15 age range which ensures a friendly and supportive “family” atmosphere.
SUPPORT FOR THE DEVON AIR AMBULANCE

“We are really grateful to Roy and all at Firewatch. Having to comply with Health & Safety regulations is all part of our business and knowing that Firewatch are on hand to help is really reassuring. By servicing our extinguishers as part of their support for Devon Air Ambulance Trust ensures that donations made by the public go that little bit further to help keep our helicopters flying.”

CHARITY KARTING
Raises £2,300!

The Firewatch Group had their sixth annual Charity Karting night on Wednesday the 13th April, held at the Raceworld track near Exeter.

11 teams of six drivers from local businesses, including Glentworth Insurance Brokers , Francis Clark CA , Elite Telecoms , System 6 Kitchens, Midas Construction, CT Lighting , Dolbear Garage, Munchkins Nursery and winners Harbour Amusements. Firewatch entered two teams, one led by Royston Blunt , Firewatch Fire Extinguisher Division Manager and nominator for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust; Royston nominated DAAT following the rescue of his son Harry last year off Dartmoor. The other team headed up by Jon Limer the Firewatch Fire Alarm Division Manager who nominated the SWMS Centre , his mother has been a long time Multiple Sclerosis sufferer.
Martin Smith CEO of Firewatch Group and race organiser commentated “We had our usual very competitive race, everyone had a good time and we raised a very satisfactory sum for our charities, this is the sixth year we have organised the race and the highest amount raised. Our next fund raiser will be the FWG Charity Golf Day again to be held at Dainton Park GC, this year on July 22nd. Last year the golf day raised a fantastic £5,600 and we will be doing our best to get near that figure again”.

FIREWATCH GROUP TO SUPPORT TWO NEW CHARITIES IN 2011!

Newton Abbot based Firewatch Group will be supporting two new charities this year. The charities have been selected by two Firewatch employees, Roy Blunt and Jon Limer. Roy nominated the Devon Air Ambulance Trust, as his 2 year old son Harry was airlifted off Dartmoor in June 2010 following an accident and Jon selected the South West Multiple Sclerosis Centre as his mother has suffered with MS for many years.
Firewatch raised over £6,000 shared between four charities in 2010 –Hannah’s@Seale Hayne, Dream-A-Way, Chicks Charity & Rowcroft Hospice.
Jon Limer expressed “I nominated the South West MS centre as I have seen first-hand how debilitating the condition Multiple Sclerosis can be. The South West MS centre has a number of treatments and therapies that can offer respite and relief to Multiple Sclerosis sufferers. We hope we can raise some funds to help them continue their good work.”
To find out more on the centre visit www.southwestmscentre.co.uk.
Roy Blunt explained the reasons for his charity preference, “'The speed and the care – including giving Harry Ambrose the Bear, a simple but very effective idea - were second to none and the fact that the Paramedic came looking for Harry in casualty later on shows they really care about their patients.”

Two events have been planned; a Go-Karting event in April and a Golf Day in July, for further information on these events email m.smith@firewatchsouthwest.co.uk.
